Nokia N95 – Award for Best Mobile Imaging Device!

Awarded By:  Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) (http://www.tipa.com/)

Model: Nokia N95

Award Year: 2007

Description: The Nokia N95 is a small mobile wonder and a camera as well. The Carl Zeiss Tessar 5 . 6 m m f/2.8 autofocus lens (35mm equivalent) and the 1/2.5in CMOS 5MP (2592×1944) sensor combine to make sharp, large prints. The adoption of a real mechanical shutter from 1/3 to 1/1000sec lets light hit the pixels instantly, thus avoiding distortions of moving subjects. The Zeiss lens focuses down to 10cm and, if needed, the 20x digital zoom helps the user get closer to distant subjects. The N95 saves images on a microSD card, and edits and transfers them over WLAN, USB or Bluetooth. Beyond other top audio, video and web capabilities, the GPS functionality makes it possible to check street maps in more than 100 countries.

Cnet (Download.com) rated the N95 Nokia mobile phone 8 out of 10

EXCELLENT!

Here is what they left in brief: The good: HSDPA; Wi-Fi; onboard GPS; 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens; 3.5mm audio jack; mini-USB connector. The bad: Build quality doesn’t justify the premium price; poor battery life; sluggish performance when multiple applications are running; premium price. The bottom line: There’s no doubt that the Nokia N95 is one of the most full-featured smart phones available right now, but its poor battery life could very well be its Achilles’ heel.

AllAboutSymbian.com called the phone a “A ‘breakthough device’” and “The First of its Kind”.

Listening to David Wood from Symbian at the recent Future Technologies conference, I heard him refer to the N95 several times as a ‘breakthrough device’. Now, this is no doubt a pre-programmed PR line when talking about the N95 but it’s also pretty accurate. The important thing to remember is that the N95 is the first of its kind and, as such, we’re still on the bleeding edge when it comes to the technology and minaturisation involved …
